🌍 Foreign Residents in Korea Series
Step-by-step guides for foreigners living in Korea — from address registration and visa to banking, taxes, and digital certificates.
No laptop? No problem. You can combine your PDFs on the go—with just a few taps and a little know-how.
In short
On iPhone and Android, you can combine PDFs using built-in tools (Files/Print to PDF, Google Drive), free online services, or dedicated apps like Adobe Acrobat and iLovePDF. Save a new merged PDF and share it anywhere.
Table of Contents
iPhone/iPad: Built-in Methods
Method A: Files App (Create PDF from multiple files)
- Open Files → navigate to the PDFs (keep them in one folder).
- Tap ••• (more) → Select → choose PDFs in desired order (you can rename with 01_, 02_ to control order).
- Tap ••• → Create PDF. Files merges them into one new PDF in that folder.
- Rename and share the merged file.
Method B: Share Sheet “Print to PDF” (works with many viewers)
- Open the first PDF in a viewer (Files/Books/Drive/Acrobat) → tap Share → Print.
- In the printer preview, pinch-out on the page to expand to full-screen PDF preview.
- Tap Share → Save to Files. Repeat and then merge using Method A, or add more items to the same print queue when supported.
💡 Tip If “Create PDF” doesn’t appear, first select the
files → tap Quick Actions →
Create PDF (varies by iOS version).
Android: Built-in & Google Drive
Method A: Google Drive (scan or combine)
- Upload PDFs to the same Google Drive folder.
- Open Drive → select the files → from the ⋮ menu choose a PDF tool (some accounts show “Open with” → PDF editor) or move to a desktop later if merge is restricted.
- Alternatively, use Google PDF Viewer with “Print” → Save as PDF to assemble pages, then combine with an app below.
Method B: Android Share → Print to PDF
- Open a PDF → Share → Print.
- Printer: Save as PDF. Add other files to the same job if supported by your viewer, or export each and merge with an app below.
💡 Tip Keep all PDFs in the same folder and sort by name.
Prefix filenames with numbers to force the correct merge order.
Apps & Online Tools
- Adobe Acrobat Reader (iOS/Android): Reliable viewer; merging requires a free trial or subscription in some regions.
- iLovePDF / Smallpdf (apps & web): Free daily merges with limits; easy drag-and-drop ordering.
- Foxit PDF / Xodo: Powerful editors with offline merge in paid tiers.
- Files by Google: Good for file handling; pair with a lightweight merge app if needed.
- Install the app → choose Merge/Combine.
- Add PDFs → drag pages/files to reorder → tap Merge.
- Save as a new PDF; avoid overwriting originals.
🔗 Quick Access
Try these tools directly:
⚠️ Note For sensitive documents, prefer offline apps. If you
must use an online tool, remove files from the service after download and
disable “keep history” options.
💡 More Recommended Tools
- Google PDF Viewer (Android) — simple PDF reader with “Save as PDF” option.
- Sejda PDF (Web) — free 3 merges per day, no watermark.
- PDF Utils (Android) — offline merge and split support.
Organize, Compress, and Share
- Reorder pages: Most apps let you long-press a thumbnail to rearrange before merging.
- Reduce size: Use “Compress”/“Optimize” to shrink large scans; choose 150–200 dpi for readable text.
- OCR: Enable text recognition so the merged PDF is searchable.
- Name clearly: Use a consistent pattern, e.g., project_proposal_merged_YYYYMMDD.pdf.
- Share safely: Send via cloud link or email; add a password if the app supports encryption.
💡 Tip If an app watermarks the result, export again using a
different tool or look for “save without watermark” in settings.
Frequently Asked Questions
-
Q. Can I merge PDFs on mobile without installing any app?A. Yes. On iOS use the Files app’s Create PDF. On Android, you can print to PDF and then combine using Google Drive or a browser-based tool.
-
Q. Why is the merged file so large?A. Scanned pages are image-heavy. Use Compress/Optimize, lower scan DPI, or enable OCR to reduce size without losing text quality.
-
Q. Can I merge PDFs and images together?A. Yes. Most apps convert images (JPG/PNG/HEIC) to PDF first, then combine. On iOS, select images in Files/Photos → Create PDF → merge.
Notes
Note. Exact menus vary by device and OS version. If a step is missing, search the app’s help for “merge/combine PDF” or update to the latest version.
